🏝️ Tabarca Island: the hidden treasure off the coast of Santa Pola

🏝️ Tabarca Island: the hidden treasure off the coast of Santa Pola
28 Jul

Off the coast of Santa Pola, just a few kilometres away by boat, lies a magical place unlike any other on the Costa Blanca: the island of Tabarca. It is the only inhabited island in the Valencian Community and one of those places that transports you back in time.

Small, peaceful and steeped in history, Tabarca is perfect for a day trip at any time of year.

How to get there

You can get there by boat from several points, but the shortest and most frequent route is from Santa Pola (about 15-20 minutes). There are also departures from Torrevieja and Alicante, especially in high season.

There are fast ferries, catamarans with underwater viewing and organised excursions that include lunch.

What to see and do in Tabarca

Stroll through the old town, surrounded by ancient walls, cobbled streets and white houses with blue and green accents. It's like a fishing village frozen in time.

Swim in crystal-clear waters, especially in the marine reserve area. It is an ideal place for snorkelling, with seabeds teeming with marine life.

Visit the 18th-century church of San Pedro y San Pablo, or the lighthouse at the highest point of the island.

Try a caldero tabarquino, the island's typical dish, with fish, rice and aioli. There are several family restaurants where you can enjoy it with sea views.

Walk around the island, from one end to the other in just half an hour. At the most natural and uninhabited end, you will find quiet coves and wild landscapes.

A place to unwind and take photos

Tabarca is not only beautiful, it is also very photogenic: from its boats in the harbour and traditional houses to the crystal-clear waters surrounding the island. It is the perfect place to take photos, relax and enjoy yourself at your own pace.

Local tip

If possible, avoid the busiest times (between 12:00 and 15:00 in summer). Going early in the morning or staying until late afternoon will allow you to enjoy a much quieter and more authentic Tabarca.

Why visit Tabarca?

Because it offers history, nature, sea and tranquillity all in one place.

If you are looking for a different kind of getaway on the Costa Blanca, Tabarca awaits you with open arms.
