Spain moves forward in negotiations to host the first Chinese MG car factory in Europe

Spain has taken an important step in its race to become the host country for the first Chinese MG car factory in Europe. According to government sources, the meeting with the management of SAIC, the Chinese automotive group that owns MG, has been described as ‘very favourable’. Although no final decisions have been made yet, Spain is competing with Hungary and the Czech Republic to host the plant.

SAIC officials have positively valued the conditions offered by Spain for the investment, such as its connection with Latin American markets, the development of a solid ecosystem for electric vehicles and its commitment to renewable energies, key factors in their decision.

Another point in Spain's favour is its network of automotive suppliers and the ports on the Cantabrian coast, which offer quick access to the UK, MG's largest market in Europe. In addition, labour costs in Spain are competitive compared to Eastern Europe.

SAIC has accelerated this project in response to the additional tariffs that the European Union has imposed on imported Chinese electric cars, making a factory in Europe a key strategy to reduce costs.
