Spain, Economic Growth Leader According to the IMF

Spain, Economic Growth Leader According to the IMF

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has recognised Spain as the best performing economy among developed countries in 2024. With a GDP growth of 3.1%, the country has surpassed other powers such as the United States (2.8%) and has positioned itself at the top of the ranking of advanced economies.

According to the prestigious newspaper El País, this growth is notably higher than that of the euro zone as a whole, where the annual increase in GDP was only 0.8%. Moreover, IMF forecasts for 2025 and 2026 indicate that Spain will continue to be among the leaders in global economic growth, although it will cede first place to the United States in 2025 and to Canada in 2026.

This recognition by the IMF reinforces optimism about the Spanish economy, which has shown a remarkable capacity for recovery after the economic challenges of recent years. One of the key factors of this growth has been the dynamism of the labour market, with a strong participation of the migrant population, as also highlighted by The Economist magazine.

The government and economic analysts have stressed that this positive evolution is the result of structural reforms, the attraction of foreign investment and the diversification of the productive fabric. Digitalisation, the promotion of renewable energies and the strengthening of the tourism sector have also been key elements in this upward trend.

With these indicators, Spain is consolidating its position as an economic benchmark in Europe, maintaining a higher growth rate than its neighbours and strengthening its position in the global market. Now, the challenge will be to maintain this trend and take advantage of the momentum to consolidate sustainable and balanced growth in the coming years.
